Second Chance Romance – When Is It Time to Forgive a Cheating Ex?
The time will come when you will have to ask yourself if it is time to forgive a cheating ex. It's not an easy question to face but one that is necessary for those who really need a sense of closure before they can move on and enjoy healthy relationships in the future or even consider a second chance romance with said cheating ex.
Here are a few good times when you might want to consider offering forgiveness to your cheating ex. Just remember that ultimately you are in the driver's seat and you don't have to forgive until you are ready. However, some future decisions and wants may hinge on your ability and willingness to forgive your ex for cheating on you.
When should you forgive a cheating ex?
1) When you are ready to move on to a different phase of your life. Whether this phase involves giving your cheating ex the second chance romance he or she wants is unimportant. What is important is that until you can forgive your ex for cheating, you're going to have a hard time moving forward in any relationship. When you're ready to move on you're going to have to forgive in order to do so.
2) When holding on to the anger, hurt, and bitterness threatens to overwhelm or change the person you know you are or the person you want to be. Holding on to anger and bitterness is hard. It changes a person over time. The longer you hold on to those negative emotions the harder it will be to overcome them and persevere in the end. What you need to do is learn to forgive so you can move on to the bigger and better plans you know the world has in store for you without the burden of the bad emotions you've been carrying around.
3) Because forgiving someone for harming you frees yourself from that harm. It's one of those paradoxes in life. By forgiving someone from hurting you, you are literally taking away that person's power over you. Then, you can give and take power according to the relationship you have, wish to have, or no longer want to have with that person as the case may be. Forgiveness frees you to decide.
4) Forgiveness frees you from your own guilt. This is one of the unintended consequences in life that really works in your favor. When you forgive someone for hurting you it absolves, to some degree, some of the guilt you may feel over the act altogether.
